BEHIND THE SHOOT VIDEO: [link] Originalitas. Apakah makna originalitas? Apakah ia merupakan suatu cap yang terkait dengan sebuah hak milik? Dimana sebuah ide atau karya yang dianggap orsinil adalah milik sang pencipta semata? Di zaman sekarang yang penuh dengan perdebatan mengenai kepemilikan, inilah satu-satunya arti dari originalitas yang dianggap. Tetapi apakah benar makna dari kata itu hanya sampai disini? Kita harus ingat, kata ‘originalitas’ sendiri memiliki inti kata ‘origin’. Kata ini bila diterjemahkan kedalam bahasa Indonesia, artinya adalah ‘asal mula’. Dari sinilah didapat inspirasi untuk karya ini. Sebuah eksplorasi mengenai asal mula budaya Indonesia. Namun, tema besar yang dibahas disini bukanlah kelahiran tarian Indonesia, warisan tekstil ataupun hal-hal yang secara langsung berkaitan dengan identitas tradisi Indonesia. Tema yang diangkat disini adalah populasi warga Indonesia. Populasi warga Indonesia seperti Pribumi, keturunan Tionghoa, keturunan Arab, serta keturunan Portugis, Belanda, India dan sebagainya. Secara keseluruhan mayoritas populasi di Indonesia adalah warga Pribumi. Jika dibandingkan dengan warga Indonesia yang merupakan percampuran dari berbagai budaya lain, warga keturunan Tionghoa merupakan mayoritas diantara minoritas lain yang ada di Indonesia. Dari sinilah, ide ini terus dikembangkan, dimana warga Pribumi dan warga keturunan Tionghoa dipilih sebagai perwakilan populasi Indonesia. Dari tahun ke tahun kedua mayoritas ini saling berbagi dan saling memahami, dan selama proses ini terus berjalan, budaya keduanya pun saling bersentuhan. Elemen Indonesia pun dimasukkan sebagai sebuah payung persatuan diatas kedua perwakilan populasi Indonesia tersebut. Elemen tradisional seperti sunting dan kain selendang Indonesia dimasukkan kedalam konsep, kemudian dimodernisasikan sebagai penanda percampuran budaya masing-masing dengan budaya Indonesia. Hasil akhirnya merupakan interpretasi tersendiri tentang originalitas. - - - Originality. What does it mean? Is it a brand that dictates ownership? Where an idea or creation that is deemed original is owned by the creator alone? In the age where copyright is continuously debated, this is the only meaning of originality that is considered. But does the meaning of the word really end here? We have to remember, the word ‘originality’ itself has the word ‘origin’ in it. Here is where inspiration for the following work was achieved. An exploration of the origin of the Indonesian culture. But, the main theme discussed here is not the birth of Indonesian dances, textile heritage or anything directly related to the identity of the Indonesian tradition. The theme here is the Indonesian population. Indonesian populations like Pribumi (Native Indonesians), Tionghoa (Chinese Indonesians), Arabic descent, and descendants of the Portuguese, Dutch, India, among others. As a whole, the majority of the Indonesian population is Pribumi. And compared to Indonesians who are descendants of other cultures, Tionghoa is a majority among the other minorities in Indonesia. From there, this idea is explored futher, whereby Pribumi and Tionghoa is chosen to be representatives of the Indonesian population. Year after year these two majorities share a nation and as this proceeds, the cultures of the two touches. From there, this idea is explored further and Indonesian elements are incorporated as a unifying ‘umbrella’ over the two representatives of the Indonesian population. Traditional elements like the sunting (traditional Indonesian hair decoration) and Indonesian shawls are incorporated into the concept and then modernized as a testament to the merging of each of the two cultures with the core Indonesian tradition. The result is a personal interpretation of originality. |
